Consumer and decision making behaviour - Essay ExampleHence, the concept of status consumption as a process of eat goods and go by status conscious consumers has gained traction in recent years. Though status consumption was always a trend, the fact that the advent of the global village with its concourse manufactured visions of happiness has meant that brands and products that they represent can have uses other than the basic need gratification for which they are made (OCass & McEwen, 2010). The paper looks at the concept of status consumption and how a marketer might be able to use status to market a product type or specific brand. To start with, there are many definitions of status consumption. For the purposes of this paper the following definition would be relevant Status consumption relates to the consumers behavior of desire to purchase goods and services for the status they confer, regardless of that consumers objective income or social class (Eastman et al., 1999 Bourdie u, 1989). It is worth noting that status consumption often involves expensive goods and services and that consumers use these goods and services on special occasions and events rather than on a regular basis. One reason for the proliferation of goods used as status symbols is because of the mass marketing techniques of marketers, many products have become commodities and hence consumers have an innate desire to consume goods and services that are perceived to be superior in value. This is the need that astute marketers tap into when marketing goods that they label as premium or exclusive. To take this point a bit further, recent nomenclature in advertisements and marketing collateral for the so-called status products tends to highlight the exclusivity of a particular good or service and to connote that by consuming that good or service, the consumer is being conferred a special status in society (Turunen & Laaksonen, 2011).It has been noted by many researchers that status consumptio n

The Concept of Bureaucracy as an Effective System of Organization Essay - 1
The Concept of Bureaucracy as an Effective System of Organization - Essay ExampleThis research will begin with the statement that sundry(a) descriptions and concepts have been developed regarding bureaucracy. From the definition, bureaucracy can be described as a management system intended to handle the affairs of the state and excogitate the relationship between the state and the citizens. Max Weber, a sociologist, described bureaucracy extensively, and his ideas are more or less acceptable. Some of his works include the sage Efficient Organization. While political scientists describe bureaucracy as state administration, the economists use the term in describing the non-market organizations. To some extent, most organizations have been bureaucratized. Our mechanistic idea mode has formd the basic concepts of what entails a good organization. Such thinking has played a major role in defining how an organization defines its responsibilities and answer office involved. According t o theorists, institutions, and organizations, bureaucracy can adversely affect strategies regarding the way through which they want to achieve their objectives. However, at times, those organizations and institutions may tend to disagree on how to shape and reshape their interests and goals. From an organizational perspective, institutions and organizations can easily endow the individual actors with interests and goals on condition that some specific features of an organization remain in place. Bureaucracy gives bosses supremacy over their subordinates and subordinates should, in turn, follow the instructions. Psychological Abuse Essay Example for Free
Psychological Abuse EssayPsychological disgust refers to abuse that damages the psyche, or the mind. Psychological abuse happens when one person attempts to gain power and control over another. It involves the deliberate infliction of pain or anguish to another person through literal or nonverbal conduct designed to humiliate or threaten another person (National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse). Psychological abuse if kind of prevalent in the United States. Most of its victims are women. Indeed, it is estimated that about 1.5 million women get psychologically abused each year. Psychological abuse often leads to corporeal abuse, as well as domination of the kindred and isolation from friends and family (PsychAbuse.info, 2006). Psychological abuse is dangerous because it poses many guesss on the victim, such as acute stress, erect traumatic stress disorder, and depression (PsychAbuse.info, 2006). The many documented effects of psychological maltreatment includeO ther possible consequences of psychological abuse are ablaze instability, low social competency, anxiety, and low academic achievement (Canadian wellness Network, 2004). Given the effects and signs of psychological abuse, the common victims are those who have no emotional or social support from family and friends. On the other hand, people who often have contact with vulnerable people are sometimes the ones who perpetrate psychological abuse. This meeting may include caregivers and even family members of the victim (National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse). One important progeny on psychological abuse involves neglect, particularly on barbarianren. Neglect involves the omission of protection and care needed by a child, which could lead to adverse consequences such as juvenile delinquency, aggressive behavior, and child deaths (Canadian Health Network, 2004). In this connection, the fact that many children become victims of psychological abuse is a very alarming issu e, particularly because of the tender age of the victims. Moreover, it is observed that may victims of child psychological abuse are emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, or physically handicapped, although the onset of these conditions may differ as to time (Wall, 1975). Another important issue with psychological abuse is the fact that it is believed to be the most under-reported form of abuse. Thus, the prevalence rates reported periodically may not be accurate since they besides include those incidences that have been reported (Canadian Health Network, 2004). Another critical issue on psychological abuse is its pervasiveness in dating relationships. It is estimated that abuse during the courtship ranges from 20 to 50 percent of men and women. There is also another concern about the increased risk of abuse in a dating relationship due to the tendency of couples to prolong the dating relationship before marriage (Burke, Stets Pirog-Good, 1988). All of these issues are worth e xploring. Women and children appear to be at special risk given their vulnerability. Another vulnerable group is the aged, who have no support systems to rely on.ReferencesBurke, P. J., Stets, J. E. Pirog-Good, M. A. (1988). Critical Reading and Response on the Article ââ¬ÅLetting Goââ¬Â Essay Example for Free
Critical Reading and Response on the Article let Go EssayIn the article Letting Go that was being published in The New Yorker, Atul Gawande addresses the issues regarding to the current health check dispense system that fails to spiel the needs of the patients with terminal illness. Gawande points out that the patients ask to sp shutdown more quality time with their family members and having several(prenominal) special last moments rather than struggling to stay active when they know that the chances are thin. Knowing the time to let go was one of the crucial part of the art of dying which people nowadays has forgotten. Gawande argues that choosing the hospice care would sometimes be a better choice for the terminally ill patients. He uses statistics such that the patients that choose hospice lives longer or than other patients and they tend to drop off lesser to support his argument. Hospice care tends to go with less pain treatment and focuses on the needs of the patients . It increases the quality of life of the patients during the last moments of their live. The patients family members are less likely to suffer from depression when they have chosen to go with the hospice care mainly because they have prepared themselves to face the death of the patient when time has come.Gawandes argument is that the medical examination care system nowadays fails to meet the needs of the patients. His argument is convincing because he appeals to the emotions of his reader through with(predicate) both his own and others experience and statistics.Gawande reels in his readers oversight and interest through some of the real life experience before he educates them. That makes it easier for the readers to absorb what Gawande is onerous to deliver to his audience. In order to make it tied(p) more convincing, Gawande uses two extreme cases as a comparison to prove his point that hospice care would be the better choice for terminally ill patients. He uses the story of t he lucky guy-Dave Galloway who died at home, at peace, and surrounded by family contrast with the poor old lady-Lee Cox who was died due to cardiac arrest and followed by a series of actions to bring her back to live. They pulled off her clothes and pumped her chest, put a tube in her airway and forced oxygen into her lungs, and tried to jibe if they could shock her heart back (Gawande 133). Such contrast comparison and strong words that would impact the readers thoughts on how the process of death can vary through different circumstances. After that, he again embraces the benefits of choosing hospice care rather than going to hospital for intensive medical treatments.Other than that, Gawande uses research statistics to support his argument. A drive led by the Harvard researcher Nicholas Christakis found out that sixty-three percent of doctors overestimated survival time and the average estimate was 530 percent too high (Gawande 136). The statistics shows that how the medical syst em is failing to help the patients to get a grasp on how much time they still have in order to achieve the things that they want in live before their last breath. Since the research was carried out within the well-known institution-Harvard University, readers tend to believe the statistics more and agree upon Gawandes view. By doing this, Gawande was trying to point out the flaw in our medical system so that his reader would be agreeing upon his argument.Gawande also uses different statistics to support his argument. Executives at Aetna, the insurance company, started a two-year study on letting a group of policyholders with a life expectancy of less than a year to receive hospice services without forgoing other treatments. The result is that the people that have chosen hospice service leaped from 26 percent to 70 percent (Gawande 142). The result shows that people were visiting the hospital lesser after they were introduced to hospice care. Gawande was trying to use the statistics to tell the readers that there were a lot of people that was in the same situation as they are, and they have chosen hospice care over hospital treatment after trying it. That implies that the hospice care would benefit the patients more than the hospital would. The overall structure of the Gawandes article was well organized. He was able to convince his readers by giving a main idea of what he is trying to deliver through stories and then continue by some straight-forward points that he made. He then supports his arguments with examples to further enhance his point. The wording that he uses is simple yet it gives the readers some images that connect with their emotion. For example, Sara would always arrive smiling, makeup on and bangs bobby-pinned out of her eyes. Shed find small things to laugh about, like the tubes that created strange protuberance under her dress (Gawande 137). Gawande was trying to show that how sad it could be when a person is going through those surgery and t reatment in order to get fixed. He would then use that emotion to bring up the point that is other solution to this problem which is the hospice care.I do think that the current medical care system doesnt meet the needs of the patients as there are some miscommunications between doctors and their patients. Doctors were always looking at the bright side of the illness of their patients which is good in some sense nevertheless at the same time, they have to prepare the patients for their worst case scenario. It is hard for the patients to accept the honor that their illness were beyond repair and doctors educate them to accept the truth so that they could go through a less torturing path for their spare life. So, what I am trying to say is that we shouldnt lose anticipate but at the same time we have to prepare our self for the worst outcome. If prolonging the patients life means that they have to suffer from surgeries and treatment that they need until the end of their life, why no t just do things that are more meaningful? Despite all the flaws that we had in our current medical care system, hospice care seems to be the solution for the problem because it offers comfort and satisfaction in the ending life of the patients.
